CURCHOREM: The condition of several roads in many parts has worsened to the extent of posing a threat to people’s safety. Not just the motorists, even pedestrians, are finding it difficult to walk on many roads.
For nearly 4 to 5 years now, people used to travel Ccurchorem to Assolada road have been going through a nightmare as almost 3 km of the stretch has completely worn out, making the road practically unmotorable special on Hodar to Bobdemol at Assolada panchayat area and every year same story repeated again and again, says locals from Assolda.
Apart from the motorists, who have been struggling to negotiate the road, several residents leaving by the roadside have had to put up with the dust “pollution.
“We have been paying taxes, but the government has failed to provide safe roads to us. Unless the government does not repair the roads, it has no right to collect tax from us,”” said Irfan Kiledar from Curchorem, a motorist who travelling from this road on daily bases
“Another local from Curchorem said that We have been travelling through this broken road for the last three to four years and same the story repeated every year in monsoon. And the department only does patchwork of this road for two or three time in monsoon later they foot to take necessary step after the monsoon, today if you travel from Curchorem to Assolda between this mentioned places the road has potholes in at several places, which is now more dangerous for commuters during night time,” he said.
Dr Guru Naik, the resident from Curchorem, who travels every day on this route for going to his clinic at Margao, said, “I have repeatedly spoken about the bad condition of the road at Bobdemol, the story is repeated again, there is no pressure or responsibility of the department, that they are using crore rupees to construct this road, but it doesn’t last even one year.”
Further, Dr Naik said if the hot mixing of roads cannot solve this pothole issue.
“My humble respect and suggestion to the PWD road department to please construct concrete roads at Bobademol village Assolda panchayat that can give a permanent solution,” he added.
