Prayagraj:
In a poignant display of faith and leadership, President Droupadi Murmu took a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj on February 10, 2025, marking a significant moment at the Maha Kumbh Mela. This visit comes on the heels of a tragic stampede during the Mouni Amavasya celebrations, which claimed the lives of about 30 devotees. Despite this somber backdrop, the Maha Kumbh Mela, one of the world’s largest and most revered spiritual gatherings, continues to attract millions, including top leaders such as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
President Murmu’s day-long visit to Prayagraj was a testament to her deep-rooted faith and commitment to the country’s rich cultural heritage. Accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, she took a holy dip at the Triveni Sangam, the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and mythical Saraswati rivers. This ritual, steeped in Hindu tradition, was a highlight of her visit.
In addition to the holy dip, President Murmu performed prayers at the Bade Hanuman Temple and the Akshayavat tree, a revered symbol of immortality in Hinduism. Her presence was a source of inspiration for the millions of pilgrims who have flocked to Prayagraj since the Maha Kumbh Mela began on January 13. The event, set to conclude on Mahashivratri on February 26, has already seen at least 44 crore pilgrims take a dip in the Sangam.
The President’s visit was meticulously planned with heavy security arrangements in place, reflecting the importance of the event and the dignitaries involved. This security measures, however, led to severe traffic jams and restricted vehicle movement in the area. Railway authorities also took precautions, shutting down the Prayagraj Sangam railway station and implementing a single-direction traffic system at the Prayagraj Junction station.
President Murmu also explored the modern facet of the Maha Kumbh Mela by visiting the Digital Maha Kumbh Experience Centre. This innovative hub offers devotees a virtual experience of the Mela, leveraging advanced technology to enhance the spiritual journey.
As the Maha Kumbh Mela continues to captivate the hearts of millions, President Murmu’s visit serves as a reminder of the event’s profound spiritual and cultural significance.
