Panaji: Panjim Gymkhana, Goa’s iconic sports facility founded by the state’s first chief minister late Shri Dayanand Bandodkar, is gearing up to host the inaugural edition of the Bandodkar Panjim Gymkhana Tennis Open 2024 in partnership with the Goa State Tennis Association.
The all-Goa state ranking tennis tournament is scheduled to be held between April 1 and April 7, promising a week filled with thrilling encounters and fierce competition. Registration is currently open for the tournament across all categories, with the window scheduled to close on March 25.
In the Open category, participants can compete in under-14 (boys and girls), under-18 (boys and girls), mixed doubles, men’s doubles, ladies singles and men’s singles. For veterans, the categories are 45+ singles, 45+ doubles, 55+ singles and 55+ doubles. Participants are allowed to register in up to three categories.
“There has been a notable surge in interest in tennis in Goa and introducing this tournament is aimed at further popularising and fostering the sport in the state,” said Sameer Kakodkar, grandson of the state’s first chief minister and a director at the DB Bandodkar & Sons Group, which supports the tournament.
“We are pleased with the enthusiastic response as far as the registrations are concerned for the Bandodkar Panjim Gymkhana Tennis Open 2024. So far, we have surpassed 100 entries and we are anticipating many more participants to sign up before the deadline,” added Giriraj Vengurlekar, also a Director at DB Bandodkar & Sons Group and Dayanand Bandodkar’s grandson.
“The Bandodkar Panjim Gymkhana Tennis Open 2024 promises to be an exciting event that will not only promote tennis in Goa, but also provide a platform for players to showcase their talent at the state ranking event and professionally compete with their peers,” says Deepak Nahak, the Tournament Director.
