PANAJI: The Goa government has been urged by the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) to address a number of labor disputes that have persisted for a long time, despite repeated reminders and pleas.
Another important topic brought up by the union leaders at a demonstration at Azad Maidan was the revocation of the anti-labour notification that forbids strikes in pharmaceutical enterprises.
According to the press release, AITUC has also voiced its concerns about the government’s long-overdue failure to implement the 7th Pay Commission for Panchayat personnel.
Contract laborers hired by the PWD through the PWD Labour Supply Society Ltd. are the subject of another concern. The AITUC has demanded that these workers be regularized because they are currently not receiving benefits that full-time employees are entitled to.
Concerns regarding the unclear future of 200 employees of Sanjivani Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana Ltd. have also been voiced by the union.
Another group that AITUC is fighting for is the workers of the Goa State Co-Operative Milk Producers, who have yet to get the long-overdue increase in Dearness Allowance (DA).
AITUC has also brought attention to the problems that the Sanjay Centre School for Special Education’s female staff members experience after reporting harassment from the school administration. Many of these workers are still awaiting their lawful dues, especially those who have retired.
The Electricity Department employees, particularly the lineman whose services have not yet been regularized, have also been brought up by the union.
They also demanded the creation of multiple statutory labor boards in Goa and raise wages for workers in a variety of industries. These include the now-defunct Inter-State Migrant Workers’ Board (ISMWB), the Goa State Labour Advisory Board (SLAB), and the Goa State Contract Labour Advisory Board (GSCLAB).
