New Delhi: India has unveiled “Rising Together” as the central theme of its bid to host the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games, presenting the proposal as part of a broader vision to expand sporting opportunities and encourage a healthier, more active population.
Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and Indian Olympic Association President PT Usha have backed the campaign as India prepares to present its project to the International Olympic Committee’s Future Host Commission.
The IOC has confirmed that India is among seven nations that have expressed interest in hosting the 2036 Games. Germany, Qatar and Turkiye are also among the countries seeking to stage the global sporting event. The interested nations have been invited to present their respective projects as the selection process moves forward.
India’s bid places sport at the centre of the country’s wider development ambitions. The proposal highlights the potential of hosting the Olympics to encourage young people to take up sport while creating opportunities linked to education, employment and social development.
Ahmedabad has been identified as India’s preferred host city for the 2036 Games. If selected, it would mark the first time India hosts the Olympics.
India formally submitted its Expression of Interest to host the 2036 Olympics in 2024, beginning the country’s latest push to bring the world’s biggest sporting event to Indian soil.
PT Usha welcomed the IOC’s recognition of India’s interest in hosting both the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The IOA has described the development as an important step in India’s long-term Olympic ambitions.
The 2036 bid is expected to focus on infrastructure, athlete facilities, transport, sustainability and creating a lasting sporting legacy. With multiple countries competing for the hosting rights, India’s upcoming presentation will be an important stage in its effort to convince the IOC that the country is ready to stage the Games.
