PANAJI: A 6-year-old girl was allegedly molested by a Russian national in Goa. The incident took place during an overnight camp organised by the man Ilia Vasulev in North Goa on February 4 and 5.
The girl, who was participating in the camp along with other tourists from India and abroad, was allegedly molested by Vasulev.
The traumatic experience came to light when the girl confided in her parents about the ordeal a few days after the incident.
Acting promptly upon their daughter’s revelations, the concerned parents filed a complaint with the local police on February 19.
The Goa Police have since launched an investigation into the matter, booking Vasulev under several stringent sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
Despite their efforts, it was discovered that Vasulev had managed to flee the country.
The accused has been conducting such study camps in Goa, mostly for the children of foreign nationals, according to police.
Superintendent of Police (Women and Child Protection Unit) Bousette Silva told PTI that the accused “inappropriately touched the victim, which she narrated to her parents on Monday, much after the incident took place.”
