MARGAO: During the 20-day wet spell, about 35 hectares of paddy cultivation in Salcete taluka were destroyed.
However, the department is gathering the farmers’ losses, and Sheriff Furtado, the Margao Zonal Agriculture officer, is pleading with the farmers to complete the forms in order to receive compensation.
Furtado informed the media that initial calculations created by the Agriculture Department indicated that the floods had destroyed about 35 hectares of paddy land overall.
“This is the initial approximation carried out by department representatives. Our representatives have been dispatched to various villages in order to evaluate the losses and damage. The officials have been dispatched to evaluate the situation from a constituency perspective because the department is experiencing a staffing shortage, he continued.
The ZAO added that by following the protocol, farmers can notify the agriculture department directly of their losses.
“They can snap pictures of the fields that have been devastated by flooding and include a copy of their Krishi Card with their pictures. They don’t need to worry if they don’t have the Krishi cards; we’ll figure out a way,” he said.
