Panaji: In a significant achievement for Goa’s badminton community, Sandeep Heble secured second rank in the Badminton Association of India National Match Control Examination 2025. The examination was conducted in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, during the Senior National Badminton Championships, and saw participation from top nominees across the country.
The results placed Heble among the highest performers in a highly competitive process where only a limited number of candidates qualified. With just one nominee representing each state, the examination maintains strict standards, making the certification both selective and prestigious. Heble’s accomplishment marks a milestone as he becomes the first official from Goa to attain this recognition at the national level in badminton officiating.
The Match Control certification focuses on training officials in key operational aspects of tournaments, including draw management, scheduling, and overall technical coordination. Match controllers play a vital role in ensuring smooth and efficient conduct of competitions at both state and national levels, making this qualification an important component in maintaining professional standards within the sport.
Heble has had a long association with sports administration in Goa. He previously served as Secretary of the Goa Badminton Association from 2016 to 2024 and is also a national level table tennis umpire. His contributions have extended beyond administration, particularly in encouraging the development of young talent and promoting grassroots engagement in sports.
Reflecting on the achievement, Heble expressed optimism about the future, noting the growing involvement of young individuals in coaching and training roles. He also highlighted the need to strengthen the pool of qualified technical officials, an area he aims to support moving forward.
The Goa Badminton Association welcomed the achievement, describing it as a proud moment for the state. The recognition highlights Heble’s dedication and continued contribution to the development of badminton and sports officiating in Goa.
