BICHOLIM: Surla village from Sattari has achieved the fate of becoming the first village where every adult has been vaccinated.
Even though the village is a part of Sattari one has to travel about 25 km to reach this small hamlet. One has to cross the Chorla ghat, enter Karnataka and then reach this far-flung village.
It lies at the border of Goa and Karnataka and for most of the daily needs, people have to travel a lot of distance either towards Karnataka or Goa.
Undeterred with all this the people from this village strive hard and try to get the benefits and schemes from the Goa government.
This small village has now achieved the fate of becoming the first village of getting the COVID vaccine. “We fall under Thane panchayat in Sattari and earlier when the drive was taken up in the panchayat some of our youths took vaccine there. On Sunday we took another drive in the village where 100 per cent vaccination was done” local panch, Suryakant Gaonkar told.
“We are happy that our village has got number one place in the state to get everyone vaccinated. For this, many of whom helped us including the health minister, the doctors from the health centre and also the locals who came out in large number on a single day” Gaonkar told.
“Everywhere we are being praised. We went to every household and told them the importance of vaccination. There are about 420 adults and everyone took the vaccine.” Gaonkar told.
Dr Shyam Kankonkar from CHC Valpoi told that in Valpo to date they have vaccinated 26000 people in Valpoi. “In Sural we have done 100 per cent vaccination and also given dose to bedridden people.” Dr Kankonkar told.
