Cuncolim : In a thrilling match that showcased both defensive prowess and offensive flair, United Sports Club Seraulim advanced to the quarterfinals of the Vaidya Family Memorial Cup 2025 by defeating Guardian Angel SC Curchorem 2-1. The victory, marked by crucial goals from Keith Rodrigues and Elroy Costa, was significantly bolstered by the outstanding goalkeeping of Joywin Braganza, who was awarded the Man of the Match.
The match, held at the Government school playground in Cuncolim on Tuesday, was a testament to the competitive spirit of both teams. Keith Rodrigues opened the scoring for Seraulim in the 19th minute, thanks to an assist from Nayab, giving his team a 1-0 lead at halftime. This early goal set the tone for a match that would see intense pressure from both sides.
In the second half, Guardian Angel SC mounted a fierce attack, earning a penalty kick that could have leveled the score. However, Joywin Braganza’s exceptional goalkeeping skills came to the fore as he saved Cyril’s penalty attempt, denying Guardian Angel the equalizer. This pivotal moment was followed by Elroy Costa increasing Seraulim’s lead, although Regan Costa managed to pull one goal back for Guardian Angel SC, making the score 2-1.
Joywin Braganza’s performance was lauded by all, and he was deservedly awarded the Man of the Match by Shogun Aguier, a former player of Cuncolim Union. This win not only highlights Seraulim’s strength but also secures their spot in the quarterfinals of the tournament, setting the stage for further exciting matches in the Vaidya Family Memorial Cup 2025.
