PORVORIM: The State government was ordered by the Bombay High Court in Goa to establish a grievance redressal process pertaining to the ongoing construction of a six-lane elevated highway at Porvorim.
The decision was issued when petitioner Moses Pinto informed the court that the contractors had not only improperly barricaded this section but had also failed to reduce pollution. Given that the previous order was not followed, the High Court has requested that Jude Carvalho, the PWD executive engineer, stay in court on Tuesday so that it can issue the necessary orders to ensure road users’ safety and effective adherence to the instructions.
The High Court ordered the contractor and relevant government agencies to implement appropriate safety precautions throughout the construction of the six-lane elevated corridor at Porvorim and traffic diversion in November of last year.
In order to prevent traffic congestion, the North Goa Collector was urged to eliminate the main obstacles brought on by illegal construction, and the contractor was instructed to blacktop the entire detoured road as soon as possible during the site inspection.
