VALPOI: On Sunday, many villagers gathered at the site of the proposed project of IIT Goa at Shel Melavali in Sattari and planted around 500 trees, especially cashew graft, in a silent protest against the cases lodged by the government against the villagers.
The government has filed cases against the villagers during the IIT agitation.
The locals have made a strong demand for immediate withdrawal of cases.
The State government wanted to set up an IIT project at Shel Melauli. However, due to stiff resistance from the villagers, the project was finally scrapped.
Meanwhile, more than 100 villagers from other villages came together on Sunday and held a tree plantation drive. About 500 cashew seedlings have been planted so far.
It was demanded that the charges against Pooja Melekar, who came first in the B.Sc. examination and Sadyo Melekar, and excelled in examination at the national level, should be withdrawn immediately.
