CANACONA: Ardent followers of the Maratha regime and Shiv-Premis from Canacona visited the Statue of Baji Prabhu Deshpande (1615 – 13 July 1660), a key General of the Maratha Army known to fight 12000 armed force of Sultan with a mere 300 men light infantry for 15 long hours at the Battle of Pavan-Khind on his Death anniversary on Saturday.
‘We have immense honour to the statue of Baji Prabhu Deshpande at Panhala, as the revered Maratha warrior’s legacy continues to inspire pride and reverence in our hearts’, Samrat Bhagat, one of the four Shivpremis who visited the Statue and together paid high tributes to the Father of Pawankhind.
Baji Prabhu Deshpande, a key general under the legendary Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, stands as a paragon of bravery and loyalty. His heroic stand during the Battle of Pavan Khind in 1660 is a testament to his indomitable spirit. By holding off enemy forces with just 300 soldiers, he ensured Shivaji Maharaj’s escape, securing a critical victory that fortified the Maratha Empire.’, added Vikas Bhagat another ardent follower of the Chatrapathi Shivaji Maharaj dynasty. Umesh Tubki and Deepak Dhotrekar are the two others.
Bhagat further informed that known as the father of Pawankhind, Baji Prabhu’s unparalleled dedication and valor are etched into our history. His name symbolizes the fearless spirit of the Maratha warriors who were always ready to sacrifice their lives for their land and leader.
As we stood before Baji Prabhu’s statue, we were filled with profound pride and gratitude. His footsteps have paved the way for generations and his legacy of courage and sacrifice continues to guide us. We feel deeply fortunate to honour such a towering figure, whose heroism and dedication remain a beacon of inspiration for us all.
