PONDA: Just three weeks had passed since the horrifying starvation deaths of two brothers in Margao, when news of another tragic incident—a Tuesday night teen believed to have perished from starvation—had leaked out of Ponda.
The elderly girl who passed away was from Bihar and had spent the previous four years living with her brother at her uncle’s Ponda home.
According to police investigations, the girl had been going without even a drop of water for the previous few months on four days: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.
The girl experienced an unexpected pain in her chest at approximately 8 p.m. on Tuesday and was subsequently admitted to the Ponda Sub-District Hospital in a critical condition to receive medical attention. But the girl passed away during her medical care.
Inspector Tushar Lotlikar of the Ponda Police visited the hospital late at night to find out more about the deceased and her relatives. He was told that since Monday morning, the departed girl had fasted without consuming a single drop of water.
