A day after the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant blamed the people for rising in COVID19 cases during Ganesh festival, the Goa Medical College Dean Dr Shivanand Bandekar also said that the people must follow norms and COVID19 would come under control.
The Dean also maintained that the slowly but steadily the herd immunity is also coming.
“People have to follow social distancing, wear proper mask. If in community we take precautions, we can control COVID19,” Dr Bandekar said.
He said “Slowly herd immunity is coming”.
Further, the Dean said that due to increase in load the 122 ward, which was cardiothoracic ward, has now converted to 30-bedded COVID ward.
Despite the rise in mortalities, the Dean says the mortality rate is less than one percent.
“The reason for mortalities is that people are not reporting to hospital on time fearing social stigma,” he said.
He said the administration of plasma with 72 hours is very critical for plasma
“The recovery is better if plasma is administered early,” he said.
He said the State is still finding difficult to get plasma donors.
“We have just 15 packets. The need is much more,” he said.
The Dean said that Speaker Rajesh Patnekar is good and would be discharged soon.
Also, he added, AYUSH Minister Shripad Naik is also recovering well.
