COLVALE: Inspector General of Prisons Omvir Singh, IPS inaugurated Smart Card Phone System in which 07 smart card phones were installed for the inmates to contact their family members and lawyers.
Incidents of mobile phones being smuggled inside the Colvale jail were reported in past and to put an end to this menace, this smart phone system is installed in each block.
The female inmates have made first call to their family member upon inauguration of secured smart card phone facilities. Voice calls so made will be recorded for security point of view in computer hard disk.
Another facility that is inaugurated today are the upgraded Canteen facilitates to the staff and Prisoner welfare canteen to the inmates to facilitate the supply of authorised articles like eatables, toiletries, writing materials, etc. at reasonable prices.
Colvale Jail was always facing the water shortage and requirement of bore well was the need of the hour. This requirement was also fulfilled today with the inauguration of bore well by IG Prison Shri Omvir Singh, IPS.
IG Prisons emphasized on the dignity of prisoners whilst under custody and the need of ensuring all the facilities and amenities as warranted under rules and policy.
He further stated that inmates are either convicted for a crime or accused of a crime but their basic human rights except cannot be curtailed.
“Jail are now being viewed as correctional centres and therefore a reformative approach is being adopted” said the IG Prison. The program ended with sharing of sweets with the inmates.
