Panaji: Finally, the Speaker of Goa legislative Assembly Rajesh Patnekar has finally called for the hearing into the disqualification petition filed against 10 MLAs, who quit Congress to join BJP in July 2019.
The hearing is scheduled for February 26, at 11 am.
“The above petition for disqualification under para 2 (1) (B) of the Tenth Schedule read with Art. 19(2) of the Constitution of India and read with the Members of Goa Legislative Assembly (Disqualification on the Ground of Defection) Rules 1986is fixed for hearing on 26th February, 2021 at 11.00 A.M in the chamber of Speaker at Assembly Complex, Porvorim, Goa,” said the notice issued by the Secretary Namrata A. Ulman.
The disqualification petition was filed by GPCC president Girish Chodankar, who urged the speaker to disqualify all the 10 MLAs as members of the state Assembly.
The petition sought disqualification of Deputy Speaker and Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes, Deputy Chief Minister and Quepem MLA Chandrakant Kavlekar, Water Resources Department Minister and Velim MLA Filipe Neri Rodrigues, Revenue Minister and Taleigao MLA Jennifer Monserratte, Panjim MLA Atanasio Monserratte, Cuncolim MLA Clafasio Dias, Nuvem MLA Wilfred D’Sa and Thivim MLA Nilkant Halarnkar.
