PORVORIM: PWD Minister Nilesh Cabral today admitted that his department is facing a staff shortage and that was the main reason for the delay in work.
RG MLA Viresh Borkar had raised the issue of administrative delay in processing PWD works.
“PWD is facing a staff crunch and that is the main delay for work. Government is going ahead with E-governance in the PWD department and within a year all works will be streamlined,” said Cabral.
Cabral said that it is difficult to run a department with a shortage of employees.
“Although we are managing with the existing staff, I know how difficult it is to work with less staff,” he reckoned.
Cabral also said that PWD is drafting a new ‘Speed Breaker Policy’ soon.
Cabral informed that he will come out with a mechanism so that works across the state are not hampered.
“I know how the work is currently going on in the public works department,” he maintained.
“How much can one staffer work? It becomes difficult and time-consuming. PWD engineers have to be physically present at the sites. How will one engineer manage these things,” he asked.
RG MLA Viresh Borkar said that people are facing hardships due to work delays by the PWD. He also questioned any method or procedure the state government is working on to clear the files in time bound manner.
“What is the reason for the delays in administration and the reason for the lengthy procedure,” he added.
AAP MLA Capt Venzy Viegas said that there is a lot of Administrative delay. Even basic speed breaker files are delayed.
“I request the PWD minister to expedite files,” said Viegas.
