*Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar holds inspection after students also complain of electrical shock in the school

VASCO: Around 100 students studying in the Government Main school in Vasco were evacuated on grounds of safety after the portions of ceilings began to collapse and students allegedly complained of electrical shocks at the school.
Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar who rushed to the school for an inspection said that the students had been shifted to Government school at Mangor while an electrician would be called immediately to ascertain the reason for the electric shock.
“I immediately rushed here after the principal called and we saw that small pieces from the ceilings have collapsed at the school and in the staff room as well . We had earlier taken estimates and began the repair of the school but the school needs a total revamp . I have already placed the proposal to the CM Dr Pramod Sawant and with complains of electrical shock, we have evacuated the students and shifted them to another Government school at Mangor.
There are chances that the earthing could have home weak with incessant rains and we will check for the electrical issue immediately but we cannot compromise on the safety of the students. The CM Dr Pramod Sawant has also given an assurance to clear my proposal and we will get the estimates ready within a month ” said Salkar
‘While the estimates are being prepared, we will identify the dangerous areas and decide if we remove the minor pieces of the ceilings that are hanging insted of waiting for the Process so that it does not risk anyones life.
Incessant rains have also dampened the walls and till such time , we don’t get guarantee on the safety of this school, we will not allow the students here and they will have to go to nearby Mangor Government school till things are thoroughly checked. The CM Dr Pramod Sawant has asked us to prepare a total assessment and estimate for a total revamp of this school ” said Salkar
Salkar added that the Main Government school was the oldest school in port town and considered to be the heritage iconic structure.
“The front side of the school which is a heritage structure will be taken up under the CSR activities from Goa Shipyard Limited and a consultant has already been appointed for the project. We will have a joint meeting with the consultant and the GSL to discuss how we can enhance and strengthen the front side of this Heritage school structure.
The school will be restored, revamped and strengthened with changes wherever required like lighting, tiling , ceiling and roofing without damaging the heritage of the structure ” said Salkar
