Melauli:
Despite assurances from the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant, the villagers of Shel Melauli refused to give up their demand of scrapping IIT Goa project.
The Chief Minister along with administration officials on Thursday visited Shel Melauli, in Guleli village had to return empty handed even as he was greeted by chants of “IIT GO BACK” and Aamka naka aamka Naka, IIT aamka Naka.
He assures the villagers to grant them ownership rights for their land.
The Chief Minister also suggested that 20-member committee of the villagers would be set up for coordination with the State adminiatration.
The CM addressed a crowd of about 500 people gathered and also visited the thick forested area where IIT Goa is scheduled to come up.
The villagers refused to accept any of CMs assurances saying “any talks can be held only after scrapping IIT project.”
They said for the first time in decades the entire villagers are come together for a cause.
”We want nothing except scrapping of IIT. Thank you for coming here to meet us,” the villagers told CM.
