Panaji: Goa badminton star Tanisha Crasto earned widespread praise for her impressive campaign at the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi Nagoya, Japan, where she represented India in both the women’s team and mixed doubles events.
Competing alongside Dhruv Kapila in the mixed doubles quarterfinals, Tanisha produced a spirited performance against China’s world No. 1 pairing of Feng Yanzhe and Huang Dongping. The Indian duo pushed the top ranked pair through a closely fought three game contest before narrowly losing 14 21, 21 18, 18 21.
The result underlined Tanisha’s ability to challenge the very best at the international level, with the Indian pair coming close to securing a major upset against the world’s leading combination.
Tanisha also featured in India’s women’s team campaign, which ended in the quarterfinals after a 1 3 defeat against defending champions Japan. She and Katya Coelho were the only two athletes from Goa to qualify for the 2026 Asian Games.
The Goa Olympic Association has also highlighted the need for greater long term support for athletes with Olympic potential. Discussions have taken place with the Sports Authority of Goa on developing a structured support programme similar to the Target Olympic Podium Scheme, aimed at helping elite athletes through the Olympic qualification cycle.
Tanisha has already represented India at the Paris 2024 Olympics, and her latest Asian Games campaign further highlighted her position among India’s leading badminton players.
The association has also said that government prize money approved for Tanisha is expected to be released shortly, providing further support as she continues her international career with the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic qualification cycle ahead.
