PANAJI: Minister for New and Renewable Energy Sudin Dhavlikar informed that the Government of India sanctioned and released Rs.3,29,918.00 to GEDA for the preparation of a solar city master plan for Panaji city.
“Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Gol has identified Panaji City as a Solar City. As per the norms of the Solar City, all the households will have rooftop solar plants and the energy needs of the said city will be fully met by solar energy and other renewable energy sources,” said Sudin.
He further said that MNRE, Gol had asked the State Government to identify one city either a capital city or a renowned tourist destination to be developed as a Solar City. Panaji City has been selected as a Smart City it was decided to consider the Panaji city as a Solar City.
“Solar city master plan has been prepared The expenditure incurred for the preparation of master plan is Rs.3,50,373.00 (Inclusive of Taxes),” he added.
The minister also informed that he tender for the insulation of solar Roof Top Power Generation Systems on 33 numbers of Government Buildings in Panaji Jurisdiction under the Smart City Project was invited.
“Due to non-availability of funds under the Smart City project the tender was cancelled. Now the tender for the installation of rooftop solar power systems on 383 numbers of Government buildings with a total capacity of 30MW has been invited,” the minister said’.
Sudin also said that out of which 59 numbers of buildings are within the jurisdiction of Panaji City with a total capacity of 6.76MW.
