PANAJI: A total of 71,086 people in Goa have received first dose of COVID-19 vaccination, since January 16 when the nationwide immunization programme was launched. Around 12,010 have also received their second dose.
As per data, yesterday 62 health workers were administered 1st dose of vaccine while 74 HCW’s received their 2nd dose In the category of front line workers 75 were given first dose while 88 received their second.
Further, in the category of 45 to 60 years with comorbidities, 426 people received their first dose yesterday and lastly 1762 people received their first jab in the category of 60 plus beneficiaries.
More than 30 million people in India have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine in what is the world’s biggest inoculation drive.
Since the pandemic began, India has confirmed more than 11 million cases and over 157,000 deaths. The country has recorded the second-highest number of Covid-19 infections in the world after the United States.
Although caseloads have dropped sharply across the country, seven states – Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh – are reporting a fresh surge in infections.
The countrywide vaccination drive was rolled out on January 16 with healthcare workers getting inoculated and vaccination of the frontline workers started from February 2.
The next phase of COVID-19 vaccination has commenced from March 1 for those who are over 60 years of age and for people aged 45 and above with specified comorbid conditions.
