CANACONA: In his endeavour for Social Service, Canacona Municipality Councillor Shubham Komarpant repaired and renovated the newly allotted/earmarked Ward for Children (Paediatric Ward) at the Government’s only Hospital, the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Canacona.
CHC Health Officer Dr. Jose Tavares alongwith CMC Councilor Shubham Komarpant and his dedicated team of Canacona Seva Toli inaugurated the 22-bedded Paediatric Ward, recently earmarked/allotted in the CHC Building for Paediatric use.
According to sources, following strong demands from the various quarters to provide a dedicated Paediatric ward instead of keeping the young children admitting in one-corner of the Male Ward, the Health Authorities have allotted the vacant space on the ground floor (previously used for Dialysis Unit) for the use as Paediatric Ward. The spacious room though vacant was in a complete mess and required repairs and renovations before actually put into use a a Paediatric Ward.
On learning that nothing is moving ahead to repair and renovate the room, Patnem Councillor approached the Health Officer and informed that a file is already sent to the PWD for carrying outr necessary repairs and renovations of the Paediatric Ward.
‘When I approached PWD to know where the file status, I was informed that only estimate is prepared as of now, and it may upto a year before actually the works are taken up in this ward. It was that I approached the Executive Engineer in PWD who too confirmed about the days and months it will take to get the estimate approved and financial approvals obtained, informing his the delay will be too long, I sought to know whether I can on my own take up the repair and renovation works required, and I was orally given a go ahead signal.’
Including full Painting works (with Lambi and Paints), Fixing of AC, Fans, 6 Doors, 5 Toilet Commodes, 4 Basins, Full repair of Water Pipe-lines, total Wiring/cabling and Electrification, were carried out to repair and renovate the room a s Pediatric Ward at CHC.
It was a very hard task for completing the repair-works in a very short time of 20 days after the Health Officer gave an assurance to the public that a dedicated Pediatric ward is allotted at CHC, informed a source at the CHC.
Interestingly, the sources further informed that only last month the same Councilor has made several donations of the useful things including Wheel-chairs and other necessities required for the use of patients. “Yesterday and today also he had done some major repairs in other wards and OPDs in the short stipulated time which we requested from him. Every staff in CHC are grateful to this councillor particularly for the speed in which these works were carried out’, informed the reliable source from the CHC.
