CANDOLIM: A tourist taxi was completely destroyed in a fire near Candolim’s Ganpati temple on Thursday night, but the driver was fortunate to escape unharmed.
The mobile phone of a firefighter who helped put out the fire, however, was taken from the fire tender’s cabin in an unexpected turn of events.
The incident happened around 3:15 p.m. as Rafael Peter Fernandes, the driver, was operating his tourist cab. A short circuit in the engine caused a fire to start as the car got close to the Ganapati temple. The driver alerted the fire station after escaping the care facility.
The car was completely destroyed by the time a firefighter from the Pilerne fire station arrived on the scene and put out the flames.
