PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today clarified that Tuem was never on the list of probable to set up the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Goa.
“There was no intention nor proposal to setup IIT at Tuem. Search is on to find land for IIT in Goa. Appropriate location will be finalized soon and we will declare the decision,” he said.
Sources had earlier said that there were plans to acquire 10 lakh sq meters of land for IIT at Tuem in Pernem taluka.
Mandrem MLA Dayanand Sopte earlier made a statement that the IIT is coming to Tuem but after the villagers criticism he took a U-turn on the issue and said there was no plan of IIT in the taluka.
However, even before any moves are made, the villagers of Tuem had shown a red flag.
Earlier this year, after protests and violence over the IIT land acquisition at Shel Melauli, the government decided to shelve the project.
