Panjim: The Department of Physical Education and Sports at Don Bosco College, Panjim, successfully organised its Interclass Football Tournament from July 23 to August 1, 2026, with TYBA women and TYBBA men emerging as champions in their respective categories.
The week long tournament featured a 9 a side format for boys and a 5 a side format for girls, attracting enthusiastic participation from 18 classes across both categories. Nearly 280 students took part in the competition, while staff members added a unique and enjoyable element by representing different class teams, fostering camaraderie and strengthening the spirit of the event.
The tournament began with an inaugural ceremony on July 23 in the presence of Principal Prof. Teotone Vaz, Assistant Professor Shantanu Arlekar, Director of Physical Education and Sports Ryan Pereira, and Physical Education Instructor Prissie Fernandes. The championship was officially declared open with a ceremonial kick off, setting the stage for a series of competitive matches.
The semi finals and finals were held on August 1. In the women’s section, TYBA defeated TYBCOM in an exciting final to claim the 5 a side Interclass Football Championship. In the men’s category, TYBBA faced FYBCOM in a closely contested final and secured the title after a dramatic tie breaker.
Before the finals commenced, Principal Prof. Teotone Vaz and Assistant Professor Arantxa Rangel greeted the players with a ceremonial handshake, encouraging fair play, respect, and true sportsmanship throughout the matches.
The tournament also recognised outstanding individual performances. Eslin Nadar, Mehek Shaikh, and Sarah Hussain of TYBA received the Best Goalkeeper, Best Defender, and Best Striker awards respectively in the women’s category. In the men’s section, Velroid Fernandes of TYBBA was named Best Goalkeeper, Fraizer Picardo won the Best Defender award, and Kabir Mulgund of FYBCOM was honoured as Best Striker.
The championship concluded on a high note, celebrating teamwork, discipline, and healthy competition while reinforcing Don Bosco College’s vibrant sporting culture.
