MARGAO: United Club of Verna defeated Curtorim Gymkhana 4-1 to enter into the finals of the 51st Custodio Memorial inter-village football tournament organised by Raia Sporting Club played at Raia Panchayat football 𝚐𝚛𝚘𝚞𝚗𝚍.
It was a match played between United Club of Verna and Curtorim Gymkhana the two title contenders displaying a good brand of soccer in front of above 3000 spectators.
Curtorim Gymkhana coach Rosario Hilario gave the extra task to Valinton Fernandes to control the midfield as well as the frontline while Winson Fernandes the coach of the United Club of Verna fielded Stephen Satarkar on the forefront.
It didn’t take long for United Club of Verna to open the account Stephen Satarkar netted the first goal of the match with a long ranger in the tenth minute. Then Jesloy Moniz of the United Club of Verna shot was cleared by Afliio Fernandes in a timely manner as the ball was about to enter Curtorim Gymkhana net.
Then Maldino Rodrigues of Curtorim Gymkhana striker,s shot flew over the crossbar of the United Club of Verna in the 15th United club of Verna further inflated the lead through Stephen Satarkar, than Clifton Rebello of United club of Verna too recorded his name on the scoresheet to make it 3-0 in the 34th minutes.
As the match progressed in the second half United Club of Verna guarded their fort with three men army Cyprus Noronha, Fulganco Cardozo and Sairon Albuquerque this prevented Aliston Fernandes and Maldino Rodrigues the strikers of Curtorim Gymkhana on two occasions in the second half.
Then a foxy move by Maldino Rodrigues of Curtorim should have netted but Savio Pereira the goalkeeper of United Club cleared the ball to safety. Then Jesloy Moniz floated the ball above Curtorim Gymkhana goalkeeper but missed the target by Joywin Carneiro of Curtorim Gymkhana shot flew over the crossbar of United Club of Verna.
As the United Club of Verna was playing the match in the defensive mode a tricky move by Milagres Fernandes of Curtorim Gymkhana netted 1-3, but at once United club of Verna netted 4-1 through Roydon Regi in the injury time.
United Club of Verna will meet Raia Sporting Club in the final on the 5th of August, being the feast of our lady of snows also known as Konsachem fest.
