Margao: Dr Sachin Tendulkar started a unique challenge in Goa called the #Goafarmworkchallange to help the farmers in their fields.
Dr Tendulkar says “We are farmers by birth and choice. Farming requires lot of labour force. Physical work in farm amidst oxygen rich air is exhilarating, satisfying and productive. So here is a novel GOAfarmworkchallenge”
As per the doctor, people have to give their precious two hours (2.30 to 4.30 pm) on Sundays to help farmer brothers.
Today was the field of Vishant Prabhu at his farm Konir, Konshe, wherein eight people participated in today’s event at the farm in doing physical farm work.
“We spent two hours plucking black pepper and arecanut and had very productive time. Hope this encourages more people to work in farm and benefit from each other’s company,” he said.
He said the participants have to be at farm sharp at 2.30 pm and leave farm anytime after 4.30 pm.
“The work will be assigned by host and we will be doing that work for two hours. At the end you will be served tea and biscuits. If possible carry your own water bottle. No money, no traveling expenses, but only goodwill,” he says.
Dr Tendulkar says that this will be rotating farm work challenge in Dabhal and adjoining areas and every time it will move to different participating farmers field.
“So if you are for it then please register your name to Dr Sachin Tendulkar, Vishant Prabhu, Sarvesh Prabhu, Mandar Patil, Varsha Prabhu and Deepak Desai,” he said.
Dr. Sachin Tendulkar appealed Goan youth to participate in large numbers as this will benefit the farmer and youth will get knowledge of farming.
He further said there is huge trained labour shortage in agriculture sector.
