MARGAO: United Club Verna came from behind to secure a semifinal spot by defeating Guardian Angel 5-4 via the tiebreaker in the 7th Martin’s Cup football tournament organized by Betalbatim Sports Club at Panchayat ground Betalbatim on Tuesday.
Guardian Angel was first to register their name on the score sheet with a self-goal in the 10th minute of play and United club Verna bounced back and found the equaliser through Shelton in the 24th minute of play and both teams were tied 1-1 draw at the half time
In the second session again Guardian Angel SC took the lead in the 42nd minute of the game through Godwin Fernandes and in the dying minutes United club Verna scored through Clifton Fernandes and made way for a penalty shootout to decide the winner
In the resultant tiebreaker United club Verna netted through Savio, Desmond and Roydon Rego while Rayan and Genito were on target for Guardian Angel SC
