PANAJI: The United Goan Photographers & Videographers celebrated World Photography Day celebrated World Photography Day on the 19th of August 2024 in a very unique way.
This year the Association tied up with the Rosary Higher Secondary School, Navelim and organized a poster Competition for higher secondary students entitled “Save a breath today … To live a life tomorrow”. The topic was chosen keeping in mind the evils faced due to Global warming and environmental changes in the world today.
In all 32 institutions from all over Goa took part in the competition.
The following were announced as winners
1st prize of Rupees 5000 was bagged by Deepika Modje of Mont Mary higher secondary, Chicinim, Goa.
2nd prize of rupees 4000 was bagged by Nigel Ezikiel Viegas of Ramkrishna Mahadeo Salgaonkar higher secondary, Comba, Margao.
3RD Prize of Rupees 3000 was bagged by Vedang V Gaonkar of K. B Hegdawar HSS, Cujira Bambolim.
Three consolation prizes of Rupees 1000 were also awarded.
Ms Ashmi Rajesh Naik of V V M HSS, Comba Margao, Ms, Fay Mascarenhas of Rosary HSS, Navelim and master Shahjahan Ansari of Damodar HSS, Margao were awarded.
Prof. Dr, Manoj Ramakant Borkar, head of the department of Zoology, Carmel College for Women was the chief guest and gave away the prizes.
A seminar on the Agricultural scenario in Goa and the bad effects of Environmental changes was also organized for the students. Dr Manoj Ramakant Borkar highlighted the need to save our environment and protect ourselves from global warming. Mr. Shariff A X Furtado, Zonal Agricultural officer, Govt of Goa spoke about the need to save our lands for agricultural purposes and emphasized the need for farming.
Earlier in the morning the principal of Rosary HSS, Madam Margaret Dias welcomed the gathering and thanked the UGPVA for taking such a Nobel step in organizing a program of this magnitude in association with them.
Mr. Oscar das Chagas e Silva President of the Association congratulated the students for participating and also wished its members on the occasion of World Photography Day. He also thanked the Rosary HSS, for extending their full support in organizing the function.
Mr. Sheldon proposed the vote of thanks.
A tree plantation drive was also undertaken and all the dignitaries and students took turns planting numerous trees in the School campus.
