Panaji: Vicky 10 emerged champions of the Masters Table Tennis Champions League (MTTCL 6.0) after edging UK Ultra 2-1 in a closely contested final at Rustic Rose Hall, Peddem.
The championship clash went down to the deciding doubles match after both teams won one tie each. Vicky 10 made the perfect start as Mazhar Nazir and Praveen Gad defeated Noel Estibeiro and Daniel Pinto 2-0 in the opening doubles.
UK Ultra fought back strongly in the second match, with Satish Agrahar and Munir defeating Bonny D’Costa and Sohail Mulla to level the final at 1-1.
The title was then decided in the third doubles encounter. Mithun Kanji and Robert Do Rosario produced a crucial 2-1 victory over Marvando Mascarenhas and Michael Viegas to secure the championship for Vicky 10.
Vicky 10 had earlier booked their place in the final with a 2-1 semifinal victory over Noble Car. UK Ultra reached the summit clash after defeating Tuff Security 2-0 in their semifinal.
Organised by Peddem Sports Club in association with the Goa Table Tennis Association, MTTCL 6.0 featured three doubles matches in every team tie, resulting in a series of competitive and closely fought encounters throughout the tournament.
The Vicky 10 championship squad included Bharat Naik, captain Bonny D’Costa, Mazhar Nazir, Mithun Kanji, Pravin Gaad, Ranjan Dey, Robert Do Rosario, Sohail Mulla and Sudip Lawanis.
UK Ultra finished runners-up with Daniel Pinto, Marvando Mascarenhas, Michael Viegas, Munir Khan, Noel Estibeiro, Sameer Kapadi, captain Satish Agrahar and Bharat Naik in their squad.
The deciding doubles victory proved to be the defining moment as Vicky 10 held their composure under pressure to lift the MTTCL 6.0 trophy.
