PANAJI: Goa Forward Party (GFP) President Vijai Sardesai today said that he has welcomed the statement TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee on wanting alliance with like minded parties.

Sardesai today met TMC Supremo at ICG Dona-Paula for a discussion.

“Mamata’s statement on wanting alliance with like minded parties. Says he and his party has been rooting for TeamGoa for the past 2 years to oust the BJP Govt here in Goa,” said Sardesai after meeting Mamata

He further said that Mamata in the meeting had announced like minded parties to get united to defeat BJP and our agenda of GFP is also like minded

“We discussed about alliance but nothing on merging the party,” he added

Sardesai said that they are a recognised party and have a 75 per cent striking rate and there is no question about merging with any other party and we are not thinking about it also.

“Our unity efforts have been scoffed at, and ignored but we are determined to create a formidable force to face the elections for the sake of Goa. As Goa’s only regionalistic party, we will never take a decision that goes against the wishes of Goemkars or the interests of Goa. That I give my word.” He said

Vijai said that their assessment is that however big and popular parties think themselves to be, no single party can make sure of a BJP defeat.

” It’s all just bravado and people know that. We will welcome all backing from all quarters to defeat this corrupt and communal regime. We will discuss within the party what has been discussed, and then go forward,” GFP said
