PORVORIM: Porvorim police have charged a Bengaluru man with defrauding a Porvorim woman out of Rs 9.68 lakh by pretending to give her daughter a Canada visa so she could study overseas.
According to police investigations, the event happened sometime between August and September 2024 when the accused, B P Manikanta, would visit the casino and the complainant, a manager there, happened to see him.
Manikanta was then informed by the complainant that she want to transfer her daughter to Canada for additional schooling. According to reports, Manikanta assured the complainant at the time that he would secure a visa for her daughter’s schooling.
Later, the woman deposited Rs 9,68,470 into the bank accounts the accused had provided throughout the aforementioned time frame.
The woman attempted to call Manikanta when she did not obtain the visa, but he had stopped going to the casino and was unreachable.
She subsequently complained at the Porvorim police station after realizing she had been duped.
Under the direction of Police Inspector Rahul Parab, PSI Sachin Shirodkar is conducting an additional inquiry into the case that Porvorim police filed against Manikanta.
