CURCHOREM: With no solution in sight for the resumption of mining in Goa for the last three and half years, except for approvals for Mining Corporation, this will be one of the core issues for the forthcoming assembly elections in Sanvordem Constituency, which is totally dependent on mining and transportation.
People here depend on employment in mining companies and also in the transportation business.
According to the information received from the source, the political activities are gaining momentum in the constituency with just six months left for elections.
It is being said that it will be a four-way battle in the constituency.
While many new faces have shown interest in winning the seats, indications that many former MLAs have shown keen interest in contesting the polls.
Former two-time MLA Ganesh Gaonkar and former BJP president Vinay Tendulkar have shown keenness to contest polls.
A young face Anil Gaonkar has already thrown his hat in the ring. Gaonkar worked as an Assistant Engineer in the Power Department and took VRS to serve society.
The BJP has three probable candidates: vying for the seat – sitting MLA Deepak Pauskar, Rajya Sabha MP Vinay Tendulkar, and former MLA Ganesh Gaonkar.
Incumbent MLA and PWD Minister Pawaskar will need to work hard in the upcoming elections to retain his seat.
There is already an anti-incumbency against the minister, who, according to many, failed to live up to expectations.
MGP has made it clear that it will not align with BJP and that the party will not grant a Ganesh Gaonkar as there is no place for defectors in the party.
Sudin Dhavalikar has informed that two candidates Balaji Gawas and Ramakant Gaonkar have contacted him from the Sanvordem constituency.
On stats, Sanvordem constituency also has 29,373 voters, out of which 14,238 are male voters and 15,135 female voters.
The constituency has a total number of seven panchayats, one taluka – Dharbandora.
