PANAJI: – “It is a matter of pride for all of us on the outstanding performance of the brave girl Puja Melekar of Shel Melauli who stood first in Goa University securing highest marks in Analytical Chemistry at TYBSC Examination. I congratulate her for the achievement and urge the Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant to withdraw all the cases filed against her and others during their protest against IIT Project at Shel Melauli,” stated Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat.
Kamat said that the action of the Government will be the best gift to the young girl for her success and will also encourage others to work hard in academics and at the same time be the warriors to protect the environment, forest and identity of Goa.
“It is important to note that Puja Melekar was at the forefront of the anti IIT Project agitation with the sole aim of protecting the cultivable land in her village. She continued to focus on academics as well,” Digambar Kamat said.
He said that there are reports of poor internet connectivity in various parts of Goa. The students are unable to attend the online classes which have commenced from yesterday due to non-availability of consistent and un interrupted network connection.
“I had urged the Government to activate the Intranet Optic Fibre Cable Network which has reached all the Panchayats in Goa to facilitate easy access of Network to students. Unfortunately, my consistent reminders to the Government have no yielded any results till date causing inconvenience to the students as well as the parents,” Digambar Kamat said.
“I am repeatedly demanding that the Government must come out with an Academic Action Plan in view of the disruptions caused due to outbreak of Covid Pandemic. The irresponsible Government has not acted on the same till date. This shows the lack of seriousness of the Government with regards to the career of the students,” charged Kamat.
Kamat strongly condemned the action of the Government of arresting the NSUI President Naushad Chowdhari and other students who were protesting demanding conducting online examinations of post graduate students of Goa University.
The NSUI has played an important role in compelling the Government to change their decisions in the past, Digambar Kamat said.
