PANAJI: Forest Minister Vishwajit Rane today said that his department will not allow any project that will destroy Goa’s Mangroves.
Today on the occasion of World Environment Day, Rane along with Forest offiicials planted 200+ mangrove saplings on the newly surfaced Mankule Island.
“We will not allow any project that will destroy our Mangroves; forest department will plant 1500 Mangroves at Mankule island,” said Rane
He further said that being the Forest Minister, it was his duty to ensure the conservation of our ecosystems and their biodiversity as it has numerous co-benefits, both for the locals who depend on it and humankind worldwide.
“One such diverse ecosystems which our state depends on are the mangroves, as they regulate our climate, protect our coastlines, provide us with food, and sustain livelihoods.” he added
The Forest Minister also vowed to protect mangroves and ensure collaborated effort to reverse the decline of mangroves.
“The department is striving to protect & conserve our precious mangroves,” he added
