BENAULIM: Finally, the lines of battle have been drawn for the Benaulim Zilla Panchayat by-election.
Four candidates are running for the June 23 by-election, which was made necessary by Hanzel Fernandes of the Aam Aadmi Party ZP being disqualified after the High Court invalidated his OBC caste certificate attesting to his status as a Christian carpenter.
With Joseph Pimenta in the running to keep the seat, the Aam Aadmi Party has the support of all the political parties that make up the INDIA bloc.
However, Pimenta faces opposition from Grrayfans Fernandes, Frank Fernandes, and Royla Fernandes, two Independents who left Congress to run as Independents.
With party candidate Venzy Viegas and Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas going door-to-door to garner support for Pimenta’s candidacy, the AAP has already launched its campaign.
