THIVIM: A significant cash seizure took place at Tivim Railway Station when a grape trader from Maharashtra was found carrying ₹35.5 lakh in cash.
The trader, identified as Rajesh, was detained by the Konkan Railway police after the large sum of money was discovered in his possession.
Rajesh claimed that the cash was the result of selling land in Maharashtra, and he was carrying it to fund the construction of a house in Cochin, Kerala.
However, the authorities raised concerns over the unusually large cash transaction.
The Income Tax department has since initiated an investigation to verify the legitimacy of the funds.
The trader will be required to provide documentation to prove the source of the money, as failure to do so could lead to further legal action.
