PANAJI: According to the findings of the North Goa District Child Welfare Committee (CWC), 15 children younger than six years old were housed at the Assagao child care center without following the proper protocols.
A child who is an orphan or who requires foster care must be brought before the CWC in accordance with protocol. The CWC determines where the child should live after looking at a number of circumstances and issues an order to that effect.
It was discovered that up to fifteen children were being kept at the El Shaddai Assagao care facility without a CWC order.
The report was sent to the Court on Friday after the inspection was completed on Wednesday. But according to the report CWC provided to the High Court, every child is secure and receiving excellent care.
As a result, the High Court has requested that CWC visit the El Shaddai center, speak with every child there as well as any applicable parents or guardians, and issue a decision that is in the kid’s best interests.
The subject was scheduled for the next hearing on September 17 in order to allow the CWC to conduct additional investigation.
A public interest litigation (PIL) was admitted by the High Court suo motu, based on a letter from the CWC, North Goa District, dated August 13, 2024.
