PANAJI: In a significant development aimed at enhancing healthcare facilities in the state, Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane announced on January 15, 2025, that a state-of-the-art Skull and Hand Surgery Centre will soon be established at the Goa Medical College (GMC). This initiative is designed to provide specialized care for complex cranial and hand surgeries, addressing a critical healthcare need within the state.
The new centre, as outlined by Health Minister Vishwajit Rane, will be equipped with cutting-edge technology and will be led by a team of highly skilled surgeons and healthcare professionals. This advanced facility is intended to ensure accurate diagnosis, timely interventions, and world-class treatment for patients requiring specialized care in skull and hand surgeries.
One of the primary objectives of this initiative is to significantly reduce the need for patients to travel outside Goa for specialized medical care. By providing these services locally, the GMC aims to make high-quality medical services more accessible to the residents of Goa, aligning with the vision of the “Goa Model” of healthcare.
The Goa Medical College, under the leadership of Dean Dr S M Bandekar, has been enhancing its capabilities across various medical specialities. Recently, the college has also been prepared to tackle other health challenges, such as the human metapneumovirus (HMPV), with advanced testing facilities and isolation wards.
The establishment of the Skull and Hand Surgery Centre is expected to have a profound impact on the healthcare landscape in Goa. It will not only improve the quality of life for patients but also reinforce GMC’s position as a leading medical institution in the region.
The upcoming Skull and Hand Surgery Centre at GMC marks a significant milestone in Goa’s healthcare development. With its advanced technology and skilled medical team, this centre will provide critical specialized care, reducing the reliance on external medical facilities and enhancing the overall healthcare experience for the people of Goa.
