PANAJI: Satyawan Talwadkar joined the Indian National Congress on Monday in the presence of AICC Goa In-charge Manikrao Thakare, AICC Goa Co-Incharge Dr. Anjali Nimbalkar and senior state Congress leaders.
Welcoming Talwadkar into the party, GPCC President Girish Chodankar said his decision to join Congress reflected his resolve to raise issues concerning justice, equal opportunity and the rights of the Scheduled Tribe (ST) community.
Chodankar raised questions over the circumstances surrounding Talwadkar’s promotion in the Directorate of Accounts and alleged that caste considerations may have influenced the manner in which the matter was handled. He said Talwadkar had approached the court seeking relief in connection with his promotion.
“Satyawan Talwadkar had to approach the court to seek what he believed was his rightful due. His case raises questions about fairness and equal treatment in government service, and these concerns deserve to be examined objectively and transparently,” Chodankar said.
Chodankar also questioned the utilisation and accounting of funds meant for the ST community. Referring to ₹3,200 crore, he demanded clarity from the government on the allocation and utilisation of the funds. He also highlighted the continuing uncertainty over ST reservation, saying the issue remained a concern, particularly for young people.
“ST youth are seeking clear answers on reservation, opportunities and their future. They have every right to seek accountability and transparency from the Government,” he said.
Referring to former minister Govind Gaude, Chodankar said questions had also been raised over the circumstances surrounding his removal and the issue of ST reservation.
AICC Goa In-charge Manikrao Thakare said Congress remained committed to equality, dignity and social justice. He said every citizen was entitled to equal treatment and a fair opportunity, adding that concerns over denial of such rights must be addressed through appropriate constitutional and legal mechanisms.
AICC Goa Co-Incharge Dr. Anjali Nimbalkar said issues concerning employment, reservation and welfare should be dealt with through transparency and sensitivity. She said people expected fairness and equal opportunity from the government and that genuine concerns should be addressed through dialogue, accountability and appropriate action.
Talwadkar thanked the Congress leadership for welcoming him into the party and expressed his commitment to work for the people.
