PONDA: A 55-year-old man died after suffering an electric shock and falling from a betelnut tree while repairing an electric light at his farm in Cuncolim-Mardol, Ponda, on September 6.
Police received information at around 3.20 pm from the casualty police at Sub-District Hospital, Ponda, that Kusta Naique, a resident of Cuncolim-Mardol, had been brought dead to the hospital in connection with an electric shock incident at his residence.
During the inquiry, police visited the incident spot and conducted a scene of Unnatural Death (UD) occurrence panchanama. It was revealed that at around 1 pm, Naique had climbed a betelnut tree using a metal ladder to repair an electric light installed along the footpath of his betelnut farm.
While carrying out the repair work, Naique accidentally came into contact with electricity and suffered an electric shock. He subsequently fell from the height and became unconscious.
He was shifted to Sub-District Hospital, Ponda, for treatment, where the doctor on duty declared him brought dead.
Police later conducted an inquest panchanama at the hospital, following which the body was sent to SGDH, Margao, for post-mortem examination.
The police surgeon certified the cause of death as head injury resulting from blunt impact, possibly due to a fall from height following electric burn injuries.
After the autopsy, the body was handed over to the deceased’s family members for final rites.
The inquiry is being conducted by PSI Nitesh Kankonkar of Mardol Police Station.
