PONDA: A woman was killed and a man sustained grievous injuries in a road accident at Kundai, Ponda, on September 6.
According to a complaint filed by HC 5574 Sitaram Tari of Mardol Police Station, the accident occurred at around 8.50 am near Team 24 Foods and Beverages Pvt Ltd, Kundai.
Police said container truck driver Ram Paul Sharma, a resident of Bilaspur, was allegedly driving rashly and negligently while proceeding from Burger Company, Kundai IDC towards Kundai. The truck reportedly moved towards the extreme right side of the painted road median.
At the same time, TVS Jupiter rider Tilakram Yadav, a resident of Kundai, Ponda, allegedly attempted to overtake the container truck. During the manoeuvre, his scooter allegedly collided with an oncoming Aviator scooter travelling from Kundai Beat Post towards Burger Company, Kundai.
The impact caused Aviator rider Rushab Borkar, a resident of Borim, Ponda, and pillion rider Divya Mandrekar, a resident of Velgem-Surla, Bicholim, to fall onto the road.
The container truck subsequently went over Mandrekar, causing grievous injuries to both the rider and pillion. Mandrekar later succumbed to her injuries at PHC Madkai.
Police have registered a case in connection with the accident. Further investigation is being conducted by PSI Nitesh Kankonkar of Mardol Police Station.
