PANAJI: A 63-year-old woman from Taleigao was allegedly cheated of Rs 8,59,417 by an unknown person in an online fraud involving the promised exchange of old Indian coins for a higher value.
According to the complaint, the incident came to light following the receipt of an online Zero FIR, bearing No. 0-275/2026, on September 5, 2026 at around 7.38 pm.
The complainant, Deepa, wife of Dilip P. Divkar, a resident of Ansurya Apartment at Amaral Band, Taleigao, alleged that the accused established contact with her through a Facebook advertisement relating to the exchange of old coins.
The accused allegedly induced the complainant to make payments totalling Rs 8,59,417, promising to exchange her old Indian coins for a substantially higher price. However, after receiving the money, the accused allegedly failed to provide the promised exchange and also did not return the amount.
The alleged transaction was reported in connection with an incident on August 27, 2026, at around 12.18 am at the complainant’s residence in Taleigao.
Police have registered the case and initiated an investigation to identify the unknown accused and trace the money trail. PSI Mahadev D. Pednekar is conducting further investigation.
