MARGAO: A salesperson employed by an ice cream distributor has been accused of allegedly misappropriating Rs 2,24,207 collected from retail shopkeepers across South Goa.
The complaint was filed by Shivshankar Sitaram Khetan, proprietor of M/s Ashtavinayak, Mugali. According to the complaint, the accused, identified as Bechan Kharwar, a resident of West Mumbai, Maharashtra, had been working as a salesperson and was entrusted with delivering Quality Wall’s ice cream stock to retail outlets and collecting pending payments on behalf of the firm.
Between March and May 2026, Kharwar allegedly collected a total of Rs 2,24,207 from various retail shopkeepers through cash and UPI payments against valid receipts.
The complainant alleged that instead of depositing the collected amount into the firm’s bank account, the accused allegedly gave false representations and fabricated excuses regarding the missing funds.
The alleged irregularity came to light after the complainant directly verified the firm’s ledgers with the concerned shopkeepers. The shopkeepers reportedly confirmed that they had made the full payments to the accused.
According to the complaint, after the alleged misappropriation came to light, Kharwar allegedly absconded without informing the complainant. The complainant alleged that the entire amount was misappropriated for the accused’s personal gain.
Police have initiated an investigation into the alleged cheating and misappropriation. PSI Ashutosh Naik of Maina Curtorim Police Station is conducting further investigation.
