CALANGUTE: With tourism opening up once again after COVID19, Goa has seen an influx of Goan tourists off late.
However, as we all know, the tourists do not follow the rules, and as such several of them, despite warning, venture into deep waters.
The Diwali weekend has seen 20 Rescues including a double rescue in Agonda by Lifesavers Vikas and Nilesh, and a triple rescue in Cabo De Rama of a trio who refused to listen about the currents and went deep into the water, says a press release by Drishti Marine.
The release said the tourists were caught in a rip and taken very far out very quickly. Two were rescued by Lifesaver Pranab and the third by Lifesaver Mangesh, Drishti said.
“We welcome guests back to Goa! Alongwith a busy season comes to the responsibility of keeping everyone safe, and the Heroes in Blue have been responding to an average of 12-15 rescues per day over the last few weeks. October 2021 recorded a total of 186 Rescues & First Aid interventions. In the first week of November 2021, there have been 31 Rescues & First Aid interventions,” it stated.
Drishti said the Lifesavers are scanning the waters constantly and know where currents and dangers lie. While we are inundated by complaints that they remove people out of the water too much, it is a testament to their skill in how many rescues are carried out despite warnings.
The best way to enjoy the water is to ask a Lifesaver on the beach for the safe areas to swim in.
