PANAJI: AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Friday urged Goans not to vote for either the BJP or the Congress in the upcoming Assembly elections, alleging that Congress legislators would eventually join the BJP and help it form the government.
Addressing reporters in Panaji, Kejriwal said, “Don’t vote for BJP. Don’t vote for Congress also because if you vote for Congress, they will join BJP and form the government.”
His remarks came even as local AAP leaders recently indicated that the party was open to an alliance with the Congress.
Kejriwal also launched a sharp attack on the Centre over the implementation of E20 fuel, alleging that it had been “forcefully implemented” by the Modi government and was adversely affecting vehicle owners across the country.
Appealing to people to avoid purchasing new petrol or diesel vehicles, he claimed that E20 fuel was reducing mileage and causing engine-related problems, particularly in two-wheelers.
He said around 45 per cent of Goa’s population owns a car, while nearly 86 per cent owns a two-wheeler, and alleged that between 85 and 95 per cent of vehicles in the state had been affected by the use of E20 fuel.
“If you want to save your vehicle from E20, then throw out the BJP in the Goa elections,” Kejriwal said, reiterating his appeal for voters to reject both the BJP and the Congress.
The AAP chief, however, did not provide technical evidence to support his claims regarding the impact of E20 fuel on vehicle performance. The Central Government has maintained that E20 fuel has been introduced in phases in line with vehicle compatibility and ethanol-blending objectives.
