PANAJI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Goa Women’s Wing President Mamata Naik-Maben has criticised the BJP-led government over the safety of minor girls in the state, following two serious cases involving allegations of sexual assault. She has demanded accountability from Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant, who also holds the Home portfolio, and called for speedy justice for the victims.
Referring to the alleged sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl involving Crime Branch Police Inspector Vikas Deykar and a separate case in which a 32-year-old Bal Rath bus driver is accused of sexually assaulting multiple schoolgirls, Naik-Maben questioned the safeguards in place to protect children.
She raised concerns over the background verification process followed while appointing individuals to positions involving direct interaction with children, asking whether adequate checks were conducted before assigning such responsibilities.
Questioning the handling of the case involving the minor girl, Naik-Maben also sought an explanation for why she was allegedly called to the police station late at night and why a woman police officer was not present during the interaction.
She further questioned the Chief Minister’s accountability as Home Minister, asking what concrete measures the government was taking to ensure the safety of children across Goa.
Naik-Maben demanded strict action against both accused, a thorough and impartial investigation, and fast-track court proceedings to ensure that the victims receive justice.
She maintained that registering FIRs and suspending the accused cannot be considered sufficient action, stressing that the government must ensure accountability and bring the cases to a speedy conclusion.
The AAP leader called for both cases to be prioritised to ensure that justice is not delayed.
