PORVORIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today said that 50% of the workers who were working earlier have been retained by mining companies.
“While allowing the leases, we have made the conditions that the preference should be given to those who were working earlier. As of now, the companies have employed 90 per cent of the workers who were working earlier.
MLA Vijai said that state government has earlier said that the taking of local workers cannot be made mandatory in mining companies.
“Whether you can ask them to take them mandatory. The tender document mentions that the company “shall” give preference, which means it is not mandatory,” said Vijai.
